map > Sidbury
Sidbury is one the oldest
settlements in East Devon. Sidbury 'Castle' is an Iron Age hillfort and this
site predates everything in the whole valley. 'Sand' is a National Trust property
but is only open on Bank Holidays.
The Church of St Giles has the oldest Norman vaulted tower in Devon. The crypt
was only rediscovered in 1898 and is only one of six in the country. The crypt
can be visited if arrangements are made with the Church Warden (01395) 597412.
